Newcastle United boss John Carver says Callum Roberts could see action before the end of the season.

The 17-year-old winger - highly-rated by the Magpies - was recalled this week after Gateshead attempted to field him their reserve team against Scunthorpe United.

Carver - who gave him his debut in the FA Cup defeat at Leicester City - said: "He came on in the cup game for 20 minutes.

"He's a pro player here. Who is to say that he won't (play) if an opportunity comes along?"
