Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is ready to show faith in Dan Barlaser and Kell Watts.
The two academy graduates are likely to train with the first team this summer.
They ended loan spells at Rotherham United and Stevenage recently.
Barlaser helped Rotherham to the League One title, and was described by their boss Paul Warne as an excellent "quarterback."
"The two lads on loan, in particular, I was going to have another look at in pre-season," Bruce told the club's website.
"We don't even know when the next pre-season is going to be so I think it's an ideal time to bring them into the squad.
"I've never seen Barlaser play - he's had good reports down in Rotherham - so let's give him the opportunity to come and train with the players and be a part of us going forward.
"It's a good chance to have a look at them. That's what we're doing as far as them two are concerned. As I've said, they've both had successful loan spells out so let's bring them in, have a look and see where they're up to
