Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is prepared to allow the market close without a new striker signing.
Bruce says he will only bring in a centre-forward if they improve the team and is currently looking at other positions, including a potential loan move for Inter Milan's right-winger Valentino Lazaro and a permanent offer for Hull's wide frontman Jarrod Bowen.
"Look, if there is somebody there who can improve us, I will act," said Bruce.
"At this particular moment, it is very difficult to get a centre-forward on loan who is going to be any better than what we have. Unless you can think of one?
"Hey, we could find a wide player and put (winger) Allan Saint-Maximin through the middle.
"I understand the concern, like mine, over a centre-forward for four months, but if they're no better than what you've got here, what's the point of that?"
