Newcastle boss Bruce plans to use Fraser off bench against West Ham

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce says he'll use Ryan Fraser off the bench today against West Ham.

Fraser made headlines for claiming he'd have kept Bournemouth up had he not left the club in May.

But Bruce is now focused on getting the best out of him for the Magpies.

He told the Chronicle: "He hasn't played since last March. He hasn't trained competitively since then either.

"Yes, he's done a lot of work on his own, but it's not football, he wants to be involved.

"Let's see. I would think at best it would be a place on the bench."

Bruce is not concerned about Fraser's high confidence levels either and having played alongside some absolute superstars during his time at Manchester United he will probably insist you can't play the game without strong self-belief.

Bruce reflected: "Look the kid is a good player.

"I think people will enjoy watching him.

"He's a powerful and stocky little player, he is quick of the mark, a good dribbler and he really wants to beat you.

"He wants to create a chance or score a goal.

"His enthusiasm for it is pretty evident when you see him on the training ground.

"I'm sure he will be a really good acquisition and the supporters will enjoy seeing him and watching him."
