Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce insists he has the support of the majority of fans.

Bruce is under pressure at St James' Park with the team currently on a run of six consecutive defeats and just six points above the relegation zone, but Bruce says he has been sent letters of support from fans.

Bruce was asked by the BBC about negativity and said: "I can bring you in a pile of letters I signed only yesterday.

"People wishing me good luck and all the best, telling me to keep bashing away. Not all doom and gloom but I understand their frustration totally.

"It feels more unique here because of the unbelievable fan base we have. I understand it totally.

"It is more unique in Newcastle and let's be fair, it's tough times which the North-East is going through, probably worse than everybody else because of the nature of where we are geographically, it's tough.

"The one thing they (fans) do is lean on their football club for a way out. We can never take them for granted."
