Newcastle boss Bruce: Crazy last title here was Fairs Cup!

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce says it's not good enough for a club their size having not won a title in 51 years.

Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City represents an opportunity even if the home side begin as underdogs.

Newcastle's last silverware was The Fairs Cup in 1969 but domestically you have to go back to the FA Cup in 1955 when Elvis Presley was just beginning to break through in America.

"It is quite remarkable. It's such a long time, that's even before I was around!" says Bruce.

"That's the way it is, that's why there has always been that clamour [for silverware].

"How can a club of this stature have gone so long without winning anything. That's got to be the priority, whoever is sitting in this chair, that is the remit they need to have.

"Can they win something? Can the club win something? Maybe it will be this year, we've given ourselves a wonderful opportunity, who knows, let's see."
