Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has confirmed that Florian Lejeune is heading back to Alaves.

The 30-year-old Frenchman was on loan with the Spanish side last term, playing 36 games and establishing himself as a key member of the team.

Now Lejeune, who has been with Newcastle for the past four years since arriving from Eibar in 2017, is heading back to Alaves permanently.

"Florian is on his way to Spain" said Bruce.

"It looks as if something is going to happen there. It will put a few quid in the coffers.

"He is going back to Alaves where he was on loan and there is something imminent."
