Newcastle boss Bruce confident keeping hold of Gayle

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is confident keeping hold of Dwight Gayle.

Bruce previously tried to sign Gayle on a number of occasions and was looking forward to finally working with the 29-year-old when he was appointed last summer. Gayle only returned from a calf injury to action last month and has made three appearances as a late substitute since then.

"I don't want to lose him. I made it plain in the summer that I don't want to lose Dwight Gayle. Unfortunately, he's been injured up until the last month," Bruce told reporters ahead of the game against Man City.

“I see him at the moment knocking on the door because the more he's training....he's got an infectious enthusiasm about him on the training ground so I don't want to lose him, that's for sure. I can't see him leaving in January."
