And Benitez did not want to blame his captain Jamaal Lascelles for a mistake that led to the second goal.

He said to reporters after the game: "We win together and we lose together, we made a mistake as a team."

Newcastle are in 14th place, with a seven point gap (with one more game played) to Cardiff in 18th.

The Magpies know that only a couple more wins would be enough to see them stay in the Premier League.
