Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has confirmed talks with owner Mike Ashley.

The two men met after the final whistle in last Saturday's 3-0 Premier League victory over Cardiff, with the Spaniard awaiting news of the club's January recruitment mission and Ashley's search for a buyer for the club.

Asked about the meeting, Benitez said: "Obviously what we were talking about was private, but normal things and it doesn't change anything about where we are at the moment.

"We just keep working on what we can try to do in the window, and then he was happy because the team won and that's it.

"I think he was quite happy. He was congratulating me and the team for the result and then we were talking about business, where we were, but nothing else, nothing new."
