Newcastle boss Benitez confident of keeping Woodman

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez is confident of keeping Freddie Woodman.

Benitez has insisted England U20 World Cup winning Woodman has a “great future" - despite the youngster being in limbo over a contract wrangle.

Newcastle won't release him on loan and lose control of the players development - but he needs more senior games to improve.

The Blackburn clash will be his 38th senior appearance, third for Newcastle, after loan spells at Crawley, Kilmarnock and the Dons.

Benitez says he has time to fulfil his potential. He said: “We talk about keepers and they have more time to develop.

“In this case we have a very good young keeper. He is focused and he is training well. Any game will be an experience for him and I think he has a great future."
