Newcastle boss Benitez backing Dummett for international return

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez is backing Paul Dummett for an international return.

Dummett has just two caps for Wales but stepped back from playing for the Dragons in May after continually being under-used by former manager Chris Coleman.

The Welsh FA are aware that Dummett is still eligible to play for England after not featuring in a competitive game for the country he represented from youth level upwards.

Benitez told the Evening Chronicle: “Yeah. If we analyse his characteristics the main one is his left-foot.

“There are not too many left full-backs in the market and especially this country.

“Every country has their own problem.

“Paul is somebody who has experience in the Premier League and can do well.

“He can play in a position that is difficult to find players.

“So it will be an option for them.

“We will see what he wants to do in the future but he's a player you can trust."
