Newcastle attacker Matt Ritchie: Takeover talk has unsettled squad

Newcastle United attacker Matt Ritchie admits takeover talk has been distracting for the players.

Mike Ashley officially placed the Magpies on the market for a second time in October 2017 and, despite interest from Amanda Staveley and then Peter Kenyon, the club remains unsold more than 17 months on.

"You have to focus on what you can effect. You can't affect anything that happens above you; that's down to the owners, the board, or whoever is in charge," Ritchie told talkSPORT.

"For players, I think you can get distracted with it all, especially at Newcastle because it's so intense, but you have to focus on the football, and that's what we have done. Hopefully, we can reach our goals by staying in the Premier League."
