Newcastle attacker Joe White happy with Exeter loan

Newcastle attacker Joe White is happy with his loan at Exeter City.

The academy star has now reunited with former Magpies coach Gary Caldwell at League One outfit Exeter City, and has reflected on a year which has already taught him just how quickly things can change in the sport.

He told ChronicleLive: "I've already realised football can change so quickly. It hasn't been plain-sailing, but it never has been really for me.

"I need to focus on the present and where I am here, doing well on loan and we'll see in the summer, getting into pre-season and re-evaluate then. I need to focus on doing as well as I can and impress everyone back at home."

White earned the game-time he craved during his first loan spell at Victoria Park, helping Hartlepool to comfortably survive in their first season back in the EFL with a 17th-placed finish. The experience of playing in front of crowds on a regular basis was a boost, but the lack of a first senior goal left the midfielder with a sense of frustration.

White explained: "For me, Hartlepool last season didn't go exactly how I wanted it to. If you look back as a first loan, I wouldn't say it was a failed loan or anything. It's just me, how I felt and what I said to Newcastle when I came back.

"That's what I told everyone my initial feeling was towards it. It could have gone better. I spoke with Ben [Dawson] and a lot of coaches, and just said I was a bit frustrated. It's about taking what you've learnt into this loan [with Exeter] and new experiences to come."
