Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has enquired about Phil Jones, reports have claimed.

The English defender has found himself frozen out by Manchester United this season.

And Eurosport says Bruce wants to bolster his defence by signing the 28-year-old.

Bruce has reportedly contacted United assistant Michael Carrick to ask questions about Jones.

The Toon manager has wondered about Jones' 'physical state and focus' ahead of a potential winter move.
