Newcastle ace Isak: Club's potential surprised me

Newcastle United ace Alexander Isak has reflected on his first season with the club.

The Swedish international struggled with injury issues for the first half of the campaign.

However, he has been a revelation up front for the Magpies since the turn of the year, after arriving from Real Sociedad in the summer.

On the club reaching the Champions League, Isak told reporters: "It means a lot.

“We knew this was a long-term project so for us to achieve this in such a short time, it is incredible.

“It was a truly unbelievable night here against Leicester at St James' Park with the fans, you can really see what it means to everyone. We're all very happy."

He added: "I don't think so. I knew the team had potential and I knew the team played really good football.

"But after a few games, you could really see this team had that potential and were delivering from the get go. So you could see earlier we could be taken seriously and we knew we had a chance.

"We knew the pressure was there but we knew we had to handle it in a good way. I think we have that squad that can handle those situations. It's really strong from us."
