Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has decided against appointing a new football director.
The Daily Star says Toon are set to abandon plans to appoint a new director of football following the Joe Kinnear debacle.
Ashley saw the model as the way ahead for Newcastle but appears to be having second thoughts with nobody lined up to fill the vacancy.
Instead manager Alan Pardew has had a more prominent role in player recruitment and last night he revealed he's already held meetings with chief scout Graham Carr to discuss close-season signings.
"Myself, Graham and our scouting team had a meeting and have drawn up a list of realistic targets," said Pardew.
"Obviously we will need to present it to Mike at some stage so that it makes sense financially because the club needs to wipe its' nose."
