Former Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez admits he's been surprised by the physical nature of MLS. The New York Red Bull ace moved to the 'States earlier this month.

"It's definitely surprising. I did not think it was going to be as physical as it is, and I think this league is much more physical than others,'' Marquez told the New York Post.

"I just have to play my game. There's not much more I can do about the physicality of the league or how the game is played; I just have to play my game and adapt to how things are over here.

"Once my fitness starts to increase, I'll be better able to get more passes and bring equilibrium throughout the team and be able to help out much more.

"This week I feel better. I worked on my physical fitness and I feel much better now going into Toronto. I'm hoping that in one or two weeks I'm be at a much better physical level than I am right now.''
