David Villa has paid tribute to the New York City FC fans following the club's first New York derby win.
NYCFC scored a 2-0 win over the Red Bulls at Yankee Stadium on Sunday to record there first win against their local rivals in six attempts in MLS.
Goals from teenage English striker Jack Harrison and star man Villa enabled Patrick Vieira's side to notch their seventh win of the season, which sees them go top of the Eastern Conference table, and prompted the following response for the Spanish marquee forward.
"It's a very good day for us, obviously to give the supporters one victory in the derby," Villa said.
"I say the same when I win as when I lose, it's three points more. This game is the same importance as the next game in New England or the last in Seattle.
"But for the supporters, it's a little bit different. We are happy to give this present to the supporters. They deserve it."
