New York Cosmos sign Zimbabwe striker Lucky Mkosana

The New York Cosmos announced today that the team has signed forward Lucky Mkosana.

Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mkosana, 27, spent the past two seasons with the Tampa Bay Rowdies. After joining the team in September 2013, the Zimbabwe native scored four goals in 34 appearances for Tampa Bay.

"I'm extremely excited about joining the team," Mkosana said. "The Cosmos play an attacking style that really suits my strengths and I believe this is a good fit for me."

Following a standout career at Dartmouth, Mkosana was selected by the Chicago Fire in the second round (No. 23 overall) of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, but never signed for the Fire, opting instead to join the Harrisburg City Islanders. Mkosana scored 20 goals and tallied four assists in 41 games for the USL Pro club. In the 2013 season he tied a club single-season record with 13 goals and ended his stint at Harrisburg tied for third place on the franchise's all-time scoring list.

At Dartmouth, Mkosana was the 2011 Ivy League Player of the Year and made All-Ivy League First Team all four years (2008-2011). He ended his career with the Big Green as the leading scorer in school history with 34 goals.

"Lucky adds pace, strength, and is a goal-scoring threat," head coach Giovanni Savarese said. "He gives our attacking options a real boost."
