New Smudger? Alvechurch striker Wakeling impressing in Leicester trials

Released West Brom striker Jacob Wakeling is trialling with Leicester City.

The Leicester Mercury says Wakeling scored twice for the club's Under-23s as they returned to winning ways with a 4-0 thumping of 10-man Brighton.

The 19-year-old striker, released by West Brom this summer, scored the first two goals as City ran riot on the south coast, ending their four-game Premier League 2 losing streak.

Wakeling was making his second appearance for City's development squad having joined on trial from non-league Alvechurch, the teenager netting seven goals in eight games for the seventh-tier side so far this term, including a hat-trick against Leicestershire side Barwell.

Fans are unlikely to need reminding of another striker City plucked from Alvechurch, with Alan Smith going on to score 84 times for the club after arriving from the Worcestershire side.
