New Real Betis coach Rubi says he's made the move because of the club's ambitions.
Rubi left Espanyol this week to move to Seville amid criticism of his decision.
He said, "I have never negotiated behind the back of Espanyol, it is not my way of being, I have always gone straight and the club has been informed at all times.
"My decision has not been for money. In my sports career I have shown that I move for other values: an example was my decision to sign for Espanyol, rejecting two rather superior proposals. Only those who have set in motion the machinery of disparagement against me by calling me a cigar maker will know why they have done it.
"To those who accuse me of being a traitor, I tell them that I have limited myself to listening, finally ending up accepting, a job proposal from another entity like any employee who feels recognized and has come to seek to do their job optimally."
