Michael Carrick will spend the summer studying Jose Mourinho's coaching methods to be ready to step up as a first team coach next season.
Manchester United manager offered Carrick a role in the Portuguese's staff after his long-term assistant, Rui Faria, decided to step down at the end of the last season.
Carrick finished his playing career at the same time and will now be fully involved as a first team coach at the Old Trafford.
The 36-year-old knows very well Mouronho's high demands and will study the running stats of players before presenting it to the Portuguese ahead of the pre-season tour in USA.
Carrick is also carefully examining Mourinho's preferred formations, Metro claim.
