New boy Helenius on target but Villa held

Nicklas Helenius was on the scoresheet for Aston Villa but could not influence them to a win as the West Midlands club drew 1-1 in a preseason friendly in Germany.

Villa scored first through the towering Danish striker who headed home a Matthew Lowton cross but fifth tier side SV Rodinghausen managed to level through Soren Siek.

Villa were without top strikers Christian Benteke and Darren Bent, who have not travelled to Germany, but Paul Lambert handed game time to summer inclusions Aleksandar Tonev, Jores Okore, Leandro Bacuna, Antonio Luna, Jed Steer and Helenuis.
