Cherries meet Burnley in the first qualifying round of the Premier League Cup at Turf Moor (2pm) on Monday and visit Morecambe in the League Cup on Wednesday (7.45pm).
Howe told the Daily Echo: "Emerson has been training with us for 10 days and his performances have been excellent.
"But like a couple of the other players, when you are out for that long during pre-season, you miss a lot of work so we need to build up his fitness. He is going to be a very exciting player for us.
"Lys has completed most of the training but is still getting used to the way we train.
"We train and work our players very hard and it's a slightly different environment to the one he was used to in France.
"I think he is going to be an exceptional player for us when we get him fully fit but I wouldn't say he is quite there yet."
