New Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has taken to social media to send a message to the support.

Gerrard penned a three-and-a-half year contract to become the highest-paid manager in Villa's history today after Christian Purslow landed his No.1 man to replace Dean Smith.

The Liverpool legend has, though, issued a direct message to the Villa supporters via his Instagram account, and said: "A massive thank you to the Aston Villa fans for the warm welcome I have received.

"I'm well aware of the stature of the football club and how special an atmosphere you all create at Villa Park - I'm looking forward to sampling that for the first time as your new Head Coach next weekend.

"I can't wait to get started. I'm looking forward to meeting all the staff and players and getting to work out on the training pitch. UTV."
