The Mirror says guests at a testimonial dinner for Neville almost choked on their desserts when they were serenaded with a song made famous by arch-rivals Manchester City .
More than 1,200 fans paid £75 a head for the five-course feast in Malta, but were amazed when the entertainer launched into Blue Moon.
But Neville, 36, who retired last season, cheered them up by vowing to buy the island's supporters club for them.
He said: "I want to do something for fans, in Malta and Manchester. I will deliver the club so you own it for ever."
