Neville convinced Man City boss Guardiola not tempted by Barcelona return

Manchester United legend Gary Neville can't see Pep Guardiola joining Barcelona.

Barca presidential candiate Joan Laporta wants a reunion with the Manchester City boss if he wins the election in 2021.

A move could happen as Guardiola's contract expires next summer, but Neville thinks it's more likely the Catalan moves to Italy.

"It was quite emphatic from Pep (Guardiola) a few years ago, we all heard that statement and we all thought maybe one day he would go back to Barcelona," Neville told The Football Show.

"(Joan) Laporta was obviously the president, the business mind behind Barcelona in those years where they had that great period. We've always known he wanted to get back into power at Barcelona at the right time, he's had a few years out of it, whether it will happen, I'm not sure.

"From Pep's point of view, he seems to be going around the leagues in terms of dominating each league and influencing each league. He's done that in Spain, obviously, in Germany and England. You wonder if Italy would be the next one for him to complete his quartet of the major leagues in Europe.

"He's had an unbelievable influence on football across Europe in the last 10 years and I would see Italy as more of a venue for Guardiola than Barcelona. He's got nothing to prove there. I always think if you back to Barcelona and you're Guardiola, there's no way he can achieve what he achieved last time.

"He produced the best team we've ever seen and I don't think it would be possible again, with Messi coming towards the end of his career in the next couple of years or so."
