Nemanja Matic says it is important to maintain a perspective on Manchester United's season.

United are fifth on the Premier League and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the semi-final stage by rivals Manchester City on Wednesday.

And the Serbian midfielder believes his team have done well considering the abundance of youth in their squad.

Matic said: "We have had some ups and downs and this is normal for these players, who are still young and improving.

"We cannot be happy because we are United, we always want to win. But we have to be honest, with this players that we have, I think 10 of them are under-20, it is normal.

"The problem is at these kinds of clubs you do not have time. But I think United deserve more and the club wants to win, supporters are used to trophies."
