Neill delighted as Norwich edge into second spot in the Championship

Alex Neill was over the moon after seeing his Norwich City side jump into second place on the Championship table on Monday.

The Canaries defeated Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 at Carrow Road thanks to a double from Bradley Johnson which has them just a point behind league leaders AFC Bournemouth who got the better of Birmingham City 4-2 at home.

Neill hailed his side's performance but admits losing Johnson, who picked up a needless yellow card in the second half for re-entering the pitch without permission after receiving treatment for a knock, will hurt in their title hunt.

"It's obviously disappointing to lose Bradley for a couple of games but it is a squad game and we have other good players who can come in," he said.

"This gives someone else the chance to impress and it will be up to him to take it.

"It's a shame because it looked like an avoidable yellow card to me. Players always like to get back on the pitch quickly and whether than warranted a yellow card I don't know. But it is what it is and we have to move on."

Of his team's current position, Neill added: "I don't know how important it is to be in the top two with five games still to be played, but the good thing is we now have points in hand on those teams below us and if we keep winning we will stay in the top two.

"We just need to focus on winning our games, starting with the next one at Bolton."
