National League abandoning season

The National League are abandoning the season.

The Daily Star says the National League have voted to end their season now due to the coronavirus crisis.

The League held a board meeting yesterday and decided to vote in favour of declaring the season null and void with immediate effect.

League bosses are now holding crunch talks with the FA in a bid to get them to ratify the decision - and confirm the remaining positions to decide who is promoted and relegated.

If the FA agree to the proposal, it means the National League will become the first in the UK to fail to complete the season due to the pandemic that has turned the sporting world upside down.

Current leaders Barrow, along with second placed Harrogate Town, would be promoted to League Two, while Fylde and Chorley would be relegated to the National League North.

But if the Football League campaign fails to reach a conclusion due to the pandemic and no-one is relegated or promoted, the proposal means League Two would have 26 clubs next season.
