Napoli star Dries Mertens says Brighton ace Leandro Trossard has an important role in the future of Belgium's national team.

Trossard has been outstanding for the Seagulls this season as they battle to stay up this season.

And his form has been followed by Mertens, who told VTM: “There must be an overlap when certain players leave the Rode Duivels.

"We have guys with qualities.

"For example, look at Trossard. He is doing very well at Brighton and can take big steps forward."
