Napoli coach Gattuso amazed by form reversal: I did fear relegation

Napoli coach Rino Gattuso is delighted with their current form after victory over Torino.

Gattuso admits he feared relegation when he first took charge after the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti.

He revealed: “There's a long way to go this season and we need to be professional, respect our work, be a team to the final day. I know what we risked and I think even my players didn't realise how much we risked.

“When I said that we had to reach 40 points to secure safety, I meant that. We were training really badly, with a lot of tension. I feel it's important now that we all work hard, respect each other and then we'll see once we reach the end.

“I take some of the blame for Parma and Fiorentina, as I wanted us to play a certain type of football and we weren't ready. It took me a while to realise that.

“It was not a team before. People say I play catenaccio, but the truth is this is a team that at this moment cannot afford to be too unbalanced when attacking. Having a strong defence helps the midfield and then the attack too."
