Napoli director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli says a new contract announcement for Dries Mertens will soon be made.

The striker's current deal expires at the end of this month.

“Mertens showed how much he cares about this jersey and we will announce the contract renewal very soon," Giuntoli told Sky Sport Italia.

“He was never distant from Napoli, but there was some fear of losing him, as there is with all great players."

Giuntoli also offered an update on fellow Bosman prospect Jose Callejon.

"He hasn't decided yet. This is his home and Callejon will let us know what he chooses."
