NAC son of a gun Sydney van Hooijdonk: I'd love Liverpool move, but Crystal Palace good too

NAC Breda striker Sydney van Hooijdonk admits he won't consider his career a success unless he plays in England.

The son of former Nottingham Forest star Pierre van Hooijdonk, Sydney says he'd be happy playing for a big Championship club, though the Premier League is the ultimate aim.

He told Voetbalzone: “I just love that competition and it's also fine if I don't get there until my thirtieth birthday. It doesn't have to go fast."

The 20 year-old especially has a soft spot for Liverpool and admits the passion of English fans is a big draw for him.

“In terms of big teams there, that club (Liverpool) is the one I like the best, but I can also enjoy a Crystal Palace or clubs from the Championship. As long as we really live with the supporters, as it happens with NAC.

“I absolutely don't want to play for a boring club. That just doesn't suit me."

Standing at 6ft 2in, Breda born Sydney is a centre-forward like his father and has been a first teamer with NAC for the past two years.

Pierre van Hooijdonk spent two years in England with Forest, having been signed after making a big name for himself in Scotland with Celtic over two seasons. Like Sydney, Pierre also played for NAC - having two spells with the club during his career. He also earned 46 caps with Holland and was named Dutch Footballer of the Year in 2002.

Now 50, Pierre works as a popular pundit for Dutch television.
