Skipper Hugh Murray is backing new signing Chris Birchall to be a big signing for St Mirren.

"He's maybe lacking a bit of match fitness," said Murray. "But I think he showed against Killie that he's a very direct player.

"He has pace and can deliver a good ball and I'm sure he'll do well for us once he gets a few games under his belt."
