There'll be no departure for Jermain Defoe then, but that doesn't mean that all will be quiet at Stadium of Light this January.
Sunderland boss David Moyes has said he is looking into bringing players into what he describes as "this great club" - but he will also be looking to utilise the club's youth set-up as he builds for the future.
Moyes has already stated that experienced striker Jermain Defoe, a target for West Ham, will not be leaving in the transfer window.
"We are trying to build a younger team and a younger squad," he said.
"I want the young academy players training with us as much as possible. They might be involved in some way tomorrow."
