Mourinho wants Johnstone to pen new Man Utd deal

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho wants to keep hold of goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

The Daily Mail says new Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce is eyeing a move for the 23-year-old.

Mourinho rates the 23-year-old also but United's manager wants Johnstone to gain greater experience on loan so that he can provide stronger competition for David de Gea and Sergio Romero.

Johnstone has had spells with Preston North End and Doncaster Rovers in recent years but a move to high-profile Villa would be viewed as a step up.

He only has 18 months left on contract and United are looking to offer him an extension before January.
