Jose Mourinho is determined to lure Jose Fonte to Manchester United.

The Sun is reporting that the United boss is willing to offer Marcos Rojo to Southampton, plus cash, in a bid to land Portugal international Fonte.

Rojo does not feature in Mourinho's plans this season and the Portuguese tactician has been attempting to part ways with the Argentine this summer, only for the 26-year-old to make clear his intentions to fight for his first-team place at Old Trafford.

But with the impressive beginning of summer signing Eric Bailly, there appears to be no spot for Rojo and Mourinho wants to get rid, before filling his vacancy with Saints skipper Fonte.

It is understood that Fonte, 32, is interested in the move to United despite signing a lucrative deal with Southampton recently.

However, in a further twist to the story, Arsenal are also genuinely keen on Fonte and could make a move for him before the end of August which could prompt United to lodge an improved bid for Mourinho's fellow countryman.
