Mourinho rubbishes third season syndrome claims

Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has dismissed claims he can only last three seasons at one club.

Mourinho was asked about the third season syndrome levelled at him.

"At Chelsea, in the third year, I came second in the league. I lost the semi-final of the Champions League on penalties [against Liverpool], we won the FA Cup and the League Cup," he responded. “It's not bad for a third season!

“At Real Madrid, in the third year, we lost in the semi-finals of the Champions League [against Dortmund], we lost in the final of the Copa del Rey [against Atlético] and we finished second in the league [behind Barcelona]. It's not bad!

“Then, in the third season at United, we qualified for the knock-out stage of the Champions League in a difficult group with Valencia and Juventus and, in the league, you're right, the results aren't good."
