Mourinho names five players to fix his Man Utd defence

Jose Mourinho has named his five man shortlist to help fix his defensive problems.

The Manchester United boss has been unable to solidify his backline all season. Eric Bailly and Phil Jones have both struggled with injury, while Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof have been underwhelming.

Mourinho has also had to plug Ashley Young in at left-back, with Luke Shaw's future at the club looking increasingly volatile.

Raphael Varane, Toby Alderweireld, Samuel Umtiti, Danny Rose and Jose Gaya are all on the 55-year-old's list.

One of the first three names will be brought in to partner Eric Bailly at the heart of the United defence. Umtiti looks likely to renegotiate his deal with Barcelona, which would certainly increase his ridiculously low €60m release clause.

While either Rose or Gaya are being looked to fill the role at left-back. The former has in the past stated his desire to leave Tottenham for a club in the north of England.
