Mourinho key as Inter Milan plan to make Smalling ex-Man Utd player No4

Inter Milan are ready to sell Milan Skriniar to Tottenham and replace him with Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.

Jose Mourinho has identified the Slovakia international as a defensive target before the transfer window closes on October 5 but Spurs want to drive down Inter's £46million asking price.

But if Skriniar was to leave for London, Inter have reportedly identified Smalling as his replacement.

It appears Smalling has no future at Old Trafford after spending last season on loan in Serie A with Roma.

Roma haven't yet agreed a permanent deal with the Englishman and, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter could pounce.

Smalling, 30, is valued at £18m by United but could become the fourth player to swap Old Trafford for the San Siro in recent months after Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Ashley Young.
