While Pogba has not quite managed to match the expectation surrounding his record breaking move to United this summer, it has to be said that the Frenchman has been one of the better performers in a struggling Red Devils' side in more recent times.
United boss Mourinho has now talked up the importance of Pogba to United and has also surprisingly revealed that Fellaini is the French superstar's replacement in the starting line-up, indicating that perhaps talk of a January exit for the Belgian are quite premature.
Mourinho wrote in the match day programme ahead of United's 4-1 victory over West Ham United in the EFL Cup: "Unfortunately tonight we are without Paul Pogba and his natural replacement, Marouane Fellaini.
"But I have the players who can do the job despite those problems.
"We dominated our opponents without winning on Sunday, so tonight it is a case of doing the same again but making sure that the result matches the performance."
