Mourinho claims VAR ruining 'beautiful game' as Spurs humbled by Sheffield Utd

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho slammed VAR after Thursday's 3-1 loss to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The Blades ran out 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Sander Berge, Lys Mousset and Oli McBurnie.

Berge gave his side the lead after 30 minutes, only for Harry Kane to equalise two minutes later after a brilliant run from Lucas Moura.

However, VAR ruled Moura had handled the ball in the build-up, and Chris Wilder's side never looked back.

Mousset and McBurnie put the game out of reach in the second-half, before Kane grabbed a consolation after 90 minutes.

The result effectively ends Spurs slim chances of qualifying for the Champions League, while United move up to seventh on the table.

Speaking after the game, Mourinho told reporters: "I think I cannot say what I feel. It's not the referee anymore. The man on the pitch is the assistant referee, The man and lady with the flags are now the assistants of the assistant referees.

"The referee should be the man on the pitch. We are going into a direction which is really bad for a game that is a beautiful game."
