The mother of Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong has lifted the lid her son's move to Barcelona.

De Jong will join Barca this summer for a fee rising to €86m.

Marjon Schuchhard told De Telegraaf: "The fallout of the transfer to Barcelona?

"Frenkie has remained a normal boy, and I'm proud of that. Being a good player is good, but being good for me is better. He is calm and modest, we raised him in this way, pushing him to stay in his place and not to believe he has made it.

"Frenkie does not make decisions without thinking and does not think especially about money, he thinks carefully about the steps he will take."
