Manchester City have confirmed Pep Guardiola's mother has passed away after contracting coronavirus, aged 82.
The club released a statement via their official Twitter account.
It read: "The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep's mother Dolors Sala Carrio in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting coronavirus. She was 82 years old.
"Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends."
Guardiola's former club Barcelona responded to the tweet offering their condolences.
"We at FC Barcelona are deeply saddened by the loss of Dolors Sala during this difficult time, and we would like to express our most heartfelt condolences, especially to Pep Guardiola, his family, and his friends. Rest in Peace."
City's rivals Manchester United also responded, stating: "Everyone at Manchester United is saddened to hear this terrible news. We send our heartfelt condolences to Pep and his family."
