Monk favourite as Birmingham sack Cotterill

Birmingham City have sacked manager Steve Cotterill after defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Cotterill has been sacked by Birmingham - paving the way for Garry Monk to become the club's fifth manager in 15 months.

The relegation-threatened Championship club slumped to their fifth defeat on the spin, falling to a 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest, spelling the end of Cotterill's reign.

And former Leeds and Middlesbrough boss Monk is primed to takeover with a number of bookmakers suspending betting on the 38-year-old even before a ball had been kicked at the City Ground.

Brum lie two points from safety with one dozen games left to play and Monk will have to juggle the resources at his disposal as he attempts to arrest a slide into League One.
