Monchi keen to take Benfica defender Alex Grimaldo to Arsenal

Monchi is eyeing Benfica defender Alex Grimaldo for Arsenal.

Sport says left-back Grimaldo, 23, is one of the most highly-rated players outside of the top European leagues and has been linked with both the Gunners and Premier League rivals Manchester City.

However, Arsenal will put themselves in pole position to sign him if Monchi moves to the Emirates.

Mochi is considered one of the shrewdest operators in the transfer market and has previously worked with Gunners manager Unai Emery at Sevilla.

He left Roma when they sacked boss Eusebio Di Francesco earlier this month and is now looking for a new job.

The Spaniard is said to be a huge admirer of Grimaldo and reports claim he will try and take him to wherever he ends up.
