AS Monaco midfielder Cesc Fabregas admits he tried to fight back the tears during his last game for Chelsea a fortnight ago.
Cesc was granted an emotional farewell at the end of Chelsea's FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest.
The midfielder told the Guardian: "It was a fantastic experience and of course that was an emotional moment. It felt like the right moment, after 501 matches in English football.
"The time had come to continue. I am going to take on a new challenge, that is why I am now at Monaco.
"When this opportunity arose, I was surprised. I then spoke with my family and we decided that this was the right step. I feel like a young player again. I have played in England for years and I felt good there. Three months ago I did not think about leaving Chelsea. But conditions changed, such as a lack of playing time."
