Monaco chief Vasilyev: Real Madrid matched PSG offer, but Mbappe...

AS Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has revealed Real Madrid matched PSG's offer for Kylian Mbappe last summer.

Vasilyev, speaking with RMC, admits Mbappe's move became a straight choice between Paris and Madrid.

"Real Madrid was interested, there were other clubs that were also interested," he said.

"Kylian had contacts with other clubs, not just with PSG, we agreed to discuss it, it was a transparent discussion, Kylian spoke with his father, they studied the options, and finally they decided to go to PSG. I have always been clear, if there had been the possibility of not reinforcing a direct competitor, it would have been better for us.

"But we respect Kylian's decision out of respect for the player, to him as a person, to his family that I know well. But it was not the best for us."

"(But) yes, Real Madrid was the other club that offered the same amount of money."

Mbappe is on-loan at PSG this season with a permanent option set at €180m.
